Agli abitanti e lavoratori del quartiere di San Pio X e della Circoscrizione 3 di Vicenza. Siamo un gruppo di abitanti e lavoratori del quartiere e della Circoscrizione n .3. Siamo donne, uomini, ragazze e ragazzi che studiano o lavorano (operai, impiegati, insegnanti, casalinghe, pensionati…). Alcuni di noi sono sposati, altri convivono, altri vivono con i genitori, qualcuno abita da solo. Siamo contro la guerra e pensiamo che la guerra sia dichiarata e fatta per gli interessi dei forti e dei potenti a svantaggio delle persone come noi, e questo in qualunque parte del mondo succeda e per qualunque motivo sia dichiarata. La guerra provoca distruzione e morte, soprattutto fra i civili, soprattutto fra i bambini. La guerra provoca la distruzione dell’ambiente, è la causa di disastri ambientali e sociali. Nel quartiere di San Pio X c’è la caserma Ederle. A molti abitanti del quartiere questa caserma non ha mai dato fastidio, le alte mura che la circondano l’isolano completamente dal resto della città. Ma tutto quel territorio ( mq 612.000 mq circa) potrebbe essere uno spazio di gioco per i nostri bambini o di svago per i nostri anziani, o di divertimento per i nostri giovani. Invece quel territorio che ci è sottratto serve per far partire la guerra nei paesi del mondo (Irak ed Afghanistan oggi). Sembrava sempre che non fosse vero ma le notizie delle migliaia di morti irakeni, delle migliaia di bambini orfani e della morte dei giovani soldati americani della Ederle ci dimostrano che dal nostro quartiere è pensata, decisa, organizzata la guerra reale. In città vogliono costruire una nuova base militare nell’area dell’aeroporto Dal Molin. Noi non vogliamo vivere in una città di guerra. Vogliamo buone scuole e ospedali, parchi gioco e un lavoro sicuro e dignitoso, ma non le guerre. Noi non siamo anti-americani. I giovani soldati americani che hanno disertato la guerra sono nostri amici, così come il popolo americano. Manifestazione Internazionale del 15/12/2007 a Vicenza Il Comitato degli abitanti e lavoratori di Vicenza Est si prepara alla manifestazione del 15 dicembre: nel rispetto della decisione votata dagli aderenti all'appello internazionale tenutasi il 20 ottobre a Vicenza, garantirà nel giorno della manifestazione la propria presenza anche davanti alla caserma Ederle, base militare delle guerre in Iraq e Afghanistan in corso da anni. A cominciare dalle ore 9.30 fino alle 1300 davanti alla caserma Ederle (zona est-viale della Pace) verranno proiettati video e verrà diffuso materiale informativo sulle lotte contro le basi militari e per il ritiro delle truppe in vari luoghi nel mondo tra cui la storica lotta di Okinawa con i suoi blocchi ad oltranza. Il giorno 15 davanti alla Ederle interverranno i disertori Chris Capps (IVAW), e Russell, altri ex militari oggi impegnati contro la guerra e loro familiari, esponenti del movimento contro la NATO in Europa... Verrà diffuso un messaggio di solidarietà da Okinawa (Giappone). Raggiungeremo poi la stazione per il concentramento delle ore 1400 e per partire con il corteo unitario , con uno spezzone che sarà caratterizzato dai contenuti internazionali contro la guerra e la NATO, per il ritiro delle truppe da tutti i fronti, contro la costruzione della nuova base Dal Molin, contro la Gendarmeria Europea che ha sede a Vicenza, per la conversione ad usi civili della caserma Ederle e di tutti i siti ad essa collegati, per la solidarietà internazionale alle popolazioni oppresse dalle guerre coloniali, per la solidarietà e aiuto concreto ai soldati che disertano. Yours in peace and solidarity, Taro Hayashi Japan Peace Committee The 2007 Japan Peace Conference was held for four days from November 22 in Naha City in Okinawa. More than 1,900 peace activists from across the country took part in the annual conference. As part of the conference, about 1,300 people on November 25 formed a human chain encircling U.S. Marine Corps Camp Schwab in Nago City where the government is planning to construct a new U.S. base. Not only the conference participants but local residents that have been waging a struggle for more than ten years against U.S. base construction participated. The conference focused efforts on exchanges between struggles in Okinawa and the mainland. Yoshikawa Yoshikatsu testified from his own experience that "mass suicides" occurred when he was six years old. He revealed that his mother shouted at his elder brother, "Throw away the grenade!" and his family narrowly escaped death, he said. In a symposium on "mass suicides," Okubo Yasuhiro of the Okinawa Peace Committee stressed that behind the distortion of history of Okinawa is the scheme of the Japanese and U.S. governments to discourage Okinawans' wishes for peace and to strengthen the military alliance. In a separate symposium on "municipalities, residents and U.S. bases," representatives of movements in opposition to the realignment plan in Iwakuni and Zama cities as well as the JCP made reports. The movement in Yokosuka City in opposition to the deployment of a U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier also joined in the discussion. In an International Symposium held on November 22 and 23 as part of the conference, four foreign guests took part: the Committee of Inhabitants and Workers of East Vicenza ―Against the Construction of a New Base in Vicenza ― For the Conversion of Camp Ederle to Civil Uses from Italy, the Washington Peace Action from the U.S., the Campaign for Eradication of Crimes by U.S. Troops in Korea from South Korea and the International Network for the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases from Ecuador. 　 The press release of the International Symposium is as follows: Press Release International Symposium 2007 Japan Peace Conference International Symposium of the 2007 Japan Peace Conference The International Symposium of the 2007 Japan Peace Conference was held on November 22-23, 2007. On the panel were Geov Parrish, executive director of the Washington Peace Action, USA; Paulina Elizabeth Ponce Cando, International Network for the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases - Ecuador/ head of the communication affairs of the human rights watch section of the Ecumenical Commission of Human Rights, Ecuador; Andrea Licata, PhD, Committee of Inhabitants and Workers of East Vicenza-Against the Construction of a New Base in Vicenza- For the Conversion of Camp Ederle to Civil Uses, Italy; Ko You Kyoung, Bureau Chief, Campaign for Eradication of Crimes by U.S. Troops in Korea, Republic of Korea; and Kawata Tadaaki, Executive Board Member, Japan Peace Committee. Fuse Keisuke, Director of International Bureau, National Confederation of Trade Unions acted as Coordinator. The Symposium heard special reports from the Chief of the Department of Base Affairs, Ginowan City Government of Okinawa Prefecture, and from the Zama Peace Committee of Kanagawa Prefecture. The International Symposium took place amidst the increased international isolation of the U.S. policy of aggression and oppression, while the movement and public opinion against U.S. bases and U.S. military presence are gaining significant ground in different parts of the world. In March 2007, the International Conference for the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases was held in Ecuador for the first time in history, which resulted in the establishment of an international network against military bases. The struggles to oppose military bases were also emphasized in the Counter-Forum for the G8 Summit held in Rostok. In Japan, in Iwakuni, Yokosuka, Zama, Henoko, Takae, local people have been working, together with their local governments, in opposition to the ongoing realignment and reinforcement of U.S. military forces and construction plans for a new base. The movement to defend Article 9 is also making progress. The withdrawal of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, having been dispatched to the Indian Ocean to help the U.S. military operations in Afghanistan, was an historic achievement of public opinion and movement. It was also significant that in Okinawa, where the people of the entire prefecture are involved in the struggle against the government's decision to delete the reference from school textbooks to the responsibility of the Japanese military for forcing the local people to commit mass suicide, the peace movements of Japan and other parts of the world met and exchanged their views. The International Symposium served as a forum where the panelists and participants shared their experiences, learned from and expressed their solidarity to each other. Geov Parrish reported that in the United States, the movement of the people against the Iraq war has created a historically unusual change in the public opinion, and that the bigger challenge would be to change the political decision-making by the power of the public opinion. He stressed the importance of supporting those who refuse to serve in the war in Iraq, of developing public opinion through non-violent resistance to prevent weapons and equipment from being sent to Iraq, and of mobilizing people through students' resistance against military recruitment activities at high schools and colleges. Paulina Ponce spoke of her experience of developing the movement against the military base in Manta, one of the U.S. forward operating location, through making it known to the public the impact of the military presence and the role of the base as foothold of the U.S. domination of Latin American countries. The effort at local and national levels had led to the creation of the No Bases Coalition-Ecuador, which contributed to the success of the International Conference for the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases. Pointing out future tasks of the international network as establishing an international coordinating committee, organizing international campaigns, establishing an international observatory system and promotion of participation of organizations in Africa and Middle East, she called for cooperation and solidarity between the anti-base struggles around the world. Andrea Licata reported on the struggle against the U.S. military base in Vicenza, Italy, which is planned to be expanded. And he reported on the successful 200,000 people rally held in February this year and a variety of activities carried out by the people. He cited concrete examples from Germany and East Europe of the process of the conversion of military bases for civilian use and stressed that the removal of military bases is an urgent challenge for the people and community also from the sake of employment and effect on local economy. At the same time, he pointed to the importance of informing the people of the fact that the base is being used for preemptive attacks. Ko You Kyoung made clear that while some part of the U.S. military bases in South Korea has been returned according to the U.S. military realignment plan, the rest of the bases are being expanded and their functions are being strengthened. She referred to the contamination problem in the former military base sites, saying that more and more Korean people are calling on the U.S. to take the responsibility for cleaning up the contaminated area. She also said that heinous crimes of brutality such as sexual crimes and arson committed by U.S. military personnel in Korea are increasing. She pointed out the impact of the war in Iraq on the increase of crimes committed by U.S. soldiers. Then she expressed her hope that the movement to eradicate U.S. crimes and achieve peace would promote more exchanges and solidarity between the movements in the Asian region. Kawata Tadaaki, having referred to the achievement of the Japanese movement on the question of JSDF involvement in the war in Afghanistan, emphasized the importance of promoting international solidarity of anti-U.S. base movements, based on the struggles of local peoples and local governments. Especially, he pointed out the importance of international cooperation in eradicating U.S. military crimes and of exchanges among movements of different countries aiming to achieve a sustainable development of local economy by removing military bases. And he also stressed that the struggles against U.S. bases is part of the global effort to achieve a just world, resisting the outrage of neo-liberalism, which offers new conditions for broader joint actions. The Symposium made clear that despite the serious damage caused by the U.S. military presence, including crimes and environment pollution, and the danger of the U.S. world strategy, the U.S. attempt to dominate the rest of the world by military force has met with strong resistance in many parts of the world. The participants had interactive discussion on how to promote public opinion and cooperation, on advocacy for the conversion of military bases for civilian use, and on creative ideas and experiences in the movement. The struggles waged in different countries and regions are important not only for their respective places, but are integral part of the global struggle to reject the domination by big powers and to create a peaceful and just world order. Let us globalize our the joint actions and solidarity in opposition to U.S. military bases, and open up a new horizon for creating a foreign bases-free and peaceful world and Asia. No alla Finanziaria di guerra: Parlamentari? Non si salva nessuno Al di là delle chiacchiere e della propaganda (elettorale) non abbiamo ancora visto un gesto di coerenza da parte dei parlamentari che sarebbero contro la guerra e le basi militari ad essa collegate. Infatti, all’unanimità questi mistificatori hanno votato sempre a favore delle politiche di guerra. In questi giorni, nel silenzio generale, tra proteste inadeguate a bloccare la manovra in votazione, sta passando la legge più importante dello Stato, la manovra Finanziaria. Essa prevede il riarmo, il finanziamento alle truppe d’occupazione e alle basi italiane in vari paesi, l’aumento delle spese militari, gli aerei d’attacco F35, i fondi per le infrastrutture finalizzare a collegare la Caserma Ederle e il Dal Molin… ecc ecc. Intanto la legittimazione delle politiche razziste apre di fatto la strada al fascismo. Cosa ci resta? L’avversione al governo, alla guerra, alla basi militari, al riarmo, alle truppe d’occupazione … Non vengano più i parlamentari e burocrati a solidarizzare con comunicati stampa nella lotta contro la costruzione della nuova base militare al Dal Molin. Siano conseguenti nelle aule dove possono farlo. Il Comitato Vicenza Est aderisce allo sciopero generale promosso dai sindacati di base del 9 novembre 2007 convinto che solo un forte movimento dal basso possa contribuire alla radicale trasformazione delle cose. Invitiamo tutti poi alla mobilitazione internazionale del prossimo 15 dicembre con i migranti e tutti coloro che subiscono sulla loro pelle il risultato delle politiche di guerra dei nostri governi. Comunicato stampa La partecipata assemblea degli aderenti all’appello a favore di una manifestazione internazionale a Vicenza, convocata dal Comitato degli abitanti e lavoratori di Vicenza Est, riunitasi il 20 ottobre presso la Cooperativa Insieme, ha approvato con votazione un percorso a sostegno delle seguenti iniziative: - Manifestazione di Cameri (Novara) del 4 novembre contro gli aerei da guerra F35 - Sciopero generale del 9 novembre - Partecipazione all'evenuale manifestazione del 24 novembre a Roma contro le politiche sociali del governo - Assemblea a Roma del 25 novembre contro la guerra - Manifestazione internazionale unitaria del 15 dicembre a Vicenza, con spezzone caratterizzato con i contenuti dell’appello.
